Eric Abele

Eric AbeleEric Abele is a theatrical designer who specializes in costume and puppet design for Theatre for Young Audiences. In addition to teaching at UCLA TFT, Abele is a senior lecturer in costume design and associate chair of the Department of Theatre at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. His research, with his colleague Lauren Roark, is focused on developing digital rendering pedagogy for costume designers.

Abele has designed for theaters in the Baltimore/D.C. area including Everyman Theatre (Noises Off, M. Butterfly), REP Stage (The Heidi Chronicles, The Other Place) and Imagination Stage (Beauty and the Beast, Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed). Before moving to UMBC in 2014, Abele was the director of design and production at Lexington Children’s Theatre in Lexington, Ky., where he designed and produced costumes for more than 60 productions.

Abele earned his B.A. in dramatic arts and German at Centre College and completed his M.F.A. in costume design at the University of Tennessee.

In addition to his costume design work, Abele is a 500-hour registered yoga teacher. He is proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829.
