Andrew deWaard
Lecturer
Andrew deWaard teaches the courses “Film Authors,” “Overview of the Contemporary Film Industry” and “Media Industries & Cultures of Production” in the Department of Film, Television and Digital Media. He is the co-author of The Cinema of Steven Soderbergh: indie sex, corporate lies, and digital videotape (Columbia University Press, 2013) and his work has appeared in Fight the Power: The Spike Lee Reader and Habitus of the ’Hood, as well as the Journal of American Studies, Oxford Bibliographies, Cinephile and IASPM@Journal. His current book project, based on his dissertation research, examines the financialization of film, television and popular music. deWaard is the co-founder of cultcap.org, a research project that studies stewardship models for independent music, and project manager of clipnotes.org, a video annotation app for teaching film.
deWaard received his Ph.D. from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.
